About Alison Smith:

I’ve been a travel agent for the last 34 years, 24 of which have been with Azumano Travel (and the former Away Travel). It’s both a love of travel and the opportunities to work with my clients that has allowed me to truly enjoy my career.

When I was nine years old my grandparents took my brother and me on a trip around the world. I was hooked on travel at an early age! Since then I’ve traveled through Europe numerous times… sometimes with a backpack and other times via a more glamorous and luxurious style. I’ve hiked the Inca Trail in Peru, and stayed in a luxury hotel on Ipanema Beach in Rio. I’ve visited Hawaii many times and the South Pacific islands of Fiji, the Cooks, Tahiti, as well as New Zealand and Australia. Trips to China and Japan have been cultural highlights of my travel experience. Mexican beaches and tropical waters (mixed with some culture and history) are among my favorites places to explore. I’m a Sandals specialist, having toured all of the Sandals and Beaches resorts in Jamaica. I’ve sailed with six different cruise lines in various parts of the world, and am an “Accredited Cruise Counselor”.

Most recently, I have become interested in scuba diving. Having seen the underwater marvels of Antigua, Jamaica, Fiji, Cabo San Lucas, San Diego, and Florida, I decided to become a ‘Travel Dive Expert.’ I love to work with dive travelers, and all types of travelers, to arrange a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience.

According to ABC News, Maine will receive 54 more port calls in 2010 than it did in...

Hula Anyone?
March 11, 2010
Ask someone what comes to mind when they think of Hawaii and odds are they will mention hula.  Originally a society with no written language, the Hawaiians used hula with its dance, chants and songs as a primary means by which to communicate and teach legends, stories of war and of love. The hula paid homage to their gods through whom everything is connected. It was for this very fact though that hula almost disappeared when missionaries banned it due to the thought that the hula was...
