That Infectious Caribbean Spirit

What do you imagine when you think of the Caribbean? The sound of steel drums and the taste coconut milk? The warm, soft sand between your toes and the gentle caress of the wind through your hair? The marine life found swimming in the crystal blue water? Whatever it is that may evoke images of the Caribbean, everyone can agree on one thing: It’s a must-visit destination.
The region is comprised of some 7,000 plus islands. With 37 million inhabitants, the islands are a proverbial melting pot of art, music, cuisine, heritage, and culture. Upon the combination of all these interesting ingredients, the Caribbean has developed a distinct flavor, one that many destinations around the world cannot compare to.
The Caribbean has become a year round vacation destination – thanks in part to the fairly consistent weather. However, peak travel season is typically December through March, coincidentally when us mainlanders have the worst weather. Makes it all the more necessary to jet off to an island bathed in sun.
If you’re worried about hurricanes spoiling your off-season travel, there’s no need to lose any sleep. First, hurricane season, though increasingly dangerous, still doesn’t blast the islands as much as you would think. There are islands that are below the hurricane path. These islands are known as ABC – Aruba, Bonaire and Curcao. These islands, located just off of Venezuela and Colombia, contain extreme amounts of biodiversity. If you’re a fan of Spanish influence, then these islands are for you. They’ve comfortably integrated Spanish culture and heritage into the food, drink, dance, art, and architecture.
The best rates for travel generally occur during the low season (June to November); however, there is a trade off. For example, during peak travel all properties are running at max, which means that all facilities will be open and ready to serve you. During the off-season, you might run the risk of certain facilities operating on varied hours or closed completely. Working with a Caribbean Specialist through Azumano Travel American Express can help pick the perfect spot for both you and your family. Legend has it that once you visit the Caribbean, you will return again and again. The spirit is infectious.
