Matsushima Prevailed!

by Noriko Sato on April 03, 2011
How wonderful to know that one of the most beautiful sightseeing spots in Japan, “Matsushima” in Miyagi prefecture, was unharmed from the unprecedented Tsunami occurred three weeks ago, has also protected the town of Matsushima and its people!
The Tsunami which struck North Eastern Coast of Japan on March 11th, was as tall as 125 feet (37.9 meter) in Miyako City (North of Matsushima), but it was only a few feet (0.5 meter) high there.
The research group analyzed that it happened as series of high Tsunami struck all 260 small island which spread off the shore of town first, and reduced its strength significantly by the time the waves reached the shore.
The whole town is restarting all the activities and events in Matsushima, so that they can be ready for the coming spring tourism.
Matsushima is known as popular sightseeing must-see-places, together with Itsukushima Shrine at Miyajima-Hiroshima prefecture and Amano-Hashidate (3.6 KM sandbar in Kyoto prefecture).
Hopefully the radiation problem from Fukushima nuclear plants is solved, and have the tourists from all over the world again, as soon as possible.
“Ganbarou” Nippon!
